Dude, we're comparing cars stock for stock. A stock SS is slightly quicker than a stock MS3, end of story. You say give the MS3 better tires and it would hold, that is probably very true, but then you are not comparing two stock cars anymore.

Check out the new Road Track. They test this car and three others and the Cobalt does the best. Others are: Subaru WRX, Mazda Speed3 and Mitsu Lancer.

Agreed I read the article too, but...put the same wider and stickier tires on the MS3 and I bet you will get a similar time. Since the Ring time for the MS3 was set by a track virgin...I will not even count that one as a true record. Heinricy has set records with many cars there now and has the track memorized. The CD lighting lap is a good test imo. It does prove the SS is a fast car! Once again, I am guaranteeing with a tire change the MS3 would get a very close time.

Dont forget, Car and Driver's Lightning lap. In 2007, the MS3 did VIR in 3:16.0 with a top speed of 122.6mph. The 08 cobalt SS did it in 3:13.0 with a top speed of 126.9. So its NOT just drivers on this track - VIR shows the 08 Cobalt SS as faster too.
