They say history is written by the victor. Folk music is written by the people. You need a lot of passion and emotion to sit down and write a song. These songs, as mentioned before, tell an important narrative and are passed from generation to generation.
A lot of modern music is written simply to make money. These songs won't last the test of time. A hundred years from now Brittney spears' music will be in the trash heap of history. Folk Music, and Luke Kelly, will still be listened to.

That may be true. I don't know where you are from but in many places in Europe (especially Ireland) drink is an integral part of the culture. And there isn't a damn thing wrong with that.
