じりじりと暑い、アフ カの昼下がり。
刻一刻と「その時」が近づく。
気がつくと、そこは宇宙のただなかだった。
そう、僕らヒトはみな、太陽系第三惑星の表面に
へばりついて生きている。
地球から見て、太陽と月がほぼ同じ大きさに見える偶然。
地球に生命があるという奇跡。
そして、そういうことを認識できる僕たちヒトという動物が、
ここアフリカから世界に広がったこと。
いったいこれはどういうことなんだ？
ともかくも、吠えずにはいられなかった。
2001年6月21日15時9分、21世紀最初の皆既日食。
ザンビア・ルサカ郊外のsolipse会場近くの丘の上で、
世界中から集まった日食・天文マニア、それに
地元の家族連れとともに。
ちなみにザンビアの平均寿命は４３歳。
大人の５人に１人はエイズに感染している。
そしてこの３ヵ月後には、
世界で最も豊かな国で同時多発テロが起こり、
翌月には最貧国の１つアフガニスタンが爆撃された。
グローバルな戦争と、圧倒的な格差と、環境破壊と、地球温暖化と。
それが、この21世紀に僕ら直立猿人がこの星でやってること。
そんなことも頭の片隅に置きながら、
この数分間を共有してもらえたら嬉しいです。
